When you are able to beat another great team, it is always a sweet victory. That is why the head coach of the North Bay Trappers, Tom McCarthy, was so excited when they won with a score of 6 to 4 over the Sudbury Cubs. With only 1.5 minutes left in the 3rd period, Ronnie George was able to give them the lead. That put their record for the new season at 2-0.
McCarthy has nothing but great things to say about George and his ability to lead his team out there. He has a great attitude that is encouraging for the other players, and it really is genuine. The extra motivation can really help them to do their very best. The coach believes this drive assisted them to win the game even though they seemed somewhat sluggish in the early efforts of the game.
McCarthy is quick to add that there were many powerful plays throughout the game by various players including Dionne. He does give the Cubs credit for offering lots of talent out there. He says they are one of the most challenging teams that the Trappers will have to play. The win was the result of some great power play by his team and he is content with the way they performed on the ice. He says they will continue to work more on the power play in practice.
McCarthy is very happy with the endurance of all of his players out there. The team focuses on their conditioning a great deal in practice. Without that stamina in place, they never would have had the drive or the energy to be so effective that late in the game. The Trappers were behind a few times in the game, but they didn’t let that deter them from giving it their all.
